Phenylethynylpyrene(PEP)荧光素属于多环芳烃类标记物，有较高灵敏度，是对微环境进行标记的试剂。类似于Pyrene，PEP dye很容易形成激发物。然而，PEP荧光多为红移。

PEP可以用作微环境探针，基于激发态标记实验。

该试剂包含三甘醇链可以促进非极性PEP dye在有机溶剂-水相混合标记反应中的溶解。此叠氮类染料可以很容易的用于点击化学中对PEP标记探针引入炔烃分子。
