The retromer complex is comprised of several proteins and has been implicated in roles involving the Wnt signaling pathway, cell migration and adhesion, and polymeric immunoglobulin A transcytosis. VPS35 plays an essential role in the selection and trafficking of lysosomal enzyme receptors from endosomes to the Golgi. It is also a required component for the secretion of active Wnt. Expression of VPS35 is pervasive throughout all tissue.
