View All» Background Information: Cdc42-interacting protein 4 (CIP4) belongs to the F-BAR family of proteins. These proteins contain an N-terminal, alpha-helical, region that is hydrophobic and considered to be related to the Bin Amphiphysin Rvs (BAR) protein family. CIP4 contains an SH3 domain which has been reported to have a role in endocytosis, an REM (Hr1) repeat, and an FCH domain which has been shown to facilitate in microtubule binding (Tian, 2000). CIP4 has a variety of roles and function, interacting with proteins in various pathways. It is a necessary component of insulin signaling for GLUT4 translocation to the plasma membrane. CIP4 is required during endocytosis for the orchestration of membrane tabulation with the remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton. It is also a recruiter of WASL/N-WASP to promote CDC42-induced actin polymerization. CIP4 may have a role in Huntington Disease progression (Holbert, 2003). CIP4 is widely expressed and has been observed in several tissue types including; colon, thymus, brain, ovary, kidney, heart, liver, lung, pancreas, megakaryocyte, prostrate, placenta, skeletal muscle, spleen, small intestine, thymus, trachea, testis, and peripheral blood lymphocytes.
