View All» Background Information: Histone H2B is one of four histones that form a core octameric structure required for the packaging of DNA into nucleosomes, the most basic level of chromatin arrangement. Histones undergo a number of post-translational modifications (PTM) at their N- and C-terminal tails, which can influence chromatin structure and stability; and consequently, transcription, and DNA replication and repair. Histone methylation is involved in many key epigenetic phenomena, including maintaining the boundaries between heterochromatin and euchromatin.
