It is reported that BIRC6 is prominently overexpressed in colorectal cancer stem cells and serves as a key mediator against anti-cancer drugs, cisplatin and oxaliplatin. During the early stages of development in preimplanted BIRC6-knockout bovine embryos, it is shown that reduced levels of BIRC6 leads to a corresponding increase in the proportion of 2- and 4-cell and uncleaved embryos and a decrease in the number of 8-cell embryos.
