HCC-1 is expressed constitutively in normal tissues and is present at high concentrations in human plasma. HCC-1 shows approximately 46% amino acid sequence identity with MIP-1 alpha and MIP-1 beta, and 29 - 37% sequence identity with other human CC chemokines. Full length mature HCC-1 (aa 20 - 93) is a weak CCR1 agonist. Processing of the full length HCC-1 by proteases including urokinase plasminogen activator and plasmin converts HCC-1 into a truncated variant (aa 28 - 93).
