View All» Background Information: RNF2 (ring finger 2), also known as Ring1b, is one of the polycomb groups of proteins, which are important for proper development and stem cell renewal. These proteins form complexes that are essential for the transcriptional repression of genes involved in cell proliferation. This is done through post-translational modification and binding to histones. RNF2 is a critical component of that process. Changes in the expression of these proteins have been linked to cancer. RNF2 has been shown to interact with huntingtin interacting protein 2 (HIP2), a ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme.
