NEDD8 may be conjugated to a large number of proteins, in a manner analogous to ubiquitinylation and SUMOylation, including the cullin family members. The NEDD8 conjugation pathway has been demonstrated to involve a heterodimeric APP-BP1/Uba3 complex as the activating enzyme (E1 equivalent) with Ubc12 acting as the carrier enzyme (E2 equivalent).
