    View All» Background Information: Histone deacetylation acts a tag for epigenetic repression and plays an important role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression and developmental events. Histone deacetylase (HDAC) and histone acetyltransferase (HAT) catalyze this reversible histone acetylation that governs the dynamics of transcriptionally active genes. HDAC1 and HDAC2, belong to class 1 HDAC, contain most of HDAC activity in mammalian cells. HDAC1/2 are core components of multi-protein core repressor complexes containing HDAC1, HDAC2, Rbbp4 and Rbbp7. Phosphorylation of HDAC1/2 enhances enzymatic activity and the association of other proteins. Phosphorylated HDAC1/2 is recruited to a variety of promoters by transcription factors including p53, Rb, YY1, NF-kB, Sp1 and Sp3.
