QIK is phosphorylated and activated by the tumor suppressor LKB1 when in complex with the pseudokinase STRAD and the scaffolding protein MO25. QIK has been found in adipocytes where it is known to phosphorylate a few substrates that include insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) on Ser794 and TORC2 (also known as CRTC2 and not to be confused with the mTOR complex) on Ser171.
