Background Information:
Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding proteins are RNA-binding factors belonging to the IMP (IGF-II mRNA-binding protein) family of proteins. These proteins contain four K homology domains and two RNA recognition motifs. IGF2BP's have key roles in regulating the translation of target mRNAs. For the insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) gene, IGF2BP's bind to the 5' UTR of the mRNA and regulate translation. IGF2BP's are expressed in a variety of fetal tissues such as; follicles in ovary, liver, lung, kidney, thymus, placenta. Expression has also been observed in the gonoocytes of testis, oocytes, semen, spermatagonia and in several cancers including; testicular, lung, kidney, trachea, and prostate.
