Flt-1 (human 1338 aa, rat 1336 aa, and mouse 1330aa), a putative receptor protein tyrosine kinase, is a receptor for VEGF and PLGF. Flt-1 has also been described as VEGFR1 and Flk-2. It is type 1 membrane protein and is expressed in normal lung, placenta, liver, kidney, heart, and brain but not in tumor cells (Shibuya et al., 1990; Matsushime et al., 1987; Yamane et al., 1994; Finnerty et al., 1993; Choi et al., 1994; Plouet et al., 1989; Simon et al., 1998; Sait et al., 1995; deVries et al., 1992).
