IRF7 is encoded by the 3665 gene, also known as Interferon regulatory factor 7. IRF-7 is one of nine members of the Interferon Regulatory Factor (IRF) family of transcription factors that facilitate in pathogen defense, autoimmunity, lymphocyte development, cell growth and susceptibility to transformation (1, 3). The IRF7 gene is induced by the Interferon-triggered Jak-STAT pathway and includes two Interferon (IFN) responsive elements, an IRF-binding element (IRFE) in the promoter region and an IFN-stimulated response element in the first intron (2). It has been shown that all elements of IFN responses, whether the systemic production of IFN in innate immunity or the local action of IFN from plasmacytoid dendritic cells in adaptive immunity, are under the control of IRF-7 (1).
