The ladder consists of ten bands in even increments (0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 kb) to simplify size estimation. The 0.3 kb band is more intense than the other bands, allowing easy orientation and identification of RNA bands on the gel.
