Neurobasal®-A Medium can be used to grow neuronal cells from hippocampus, cortex and other regions of the brain. Neurobasal®-A Medium allows for both long and short term maintenance of homogeneous populations of neuronal cells without the need of an astrocyte feeder layer.Use Neurobasal®-A Medium Minus Phenol Red for applications in which the presence of Phenol Red will interfere with your results.Add Your Own SupplementsAll Neurobasal® media contain no L-glutamine, L-glutamic acid, or aspartic acid. Neurobasal® media must be supplemented with 0.5 mM L-glutamine or GlutaMAX™-I Supplement and either a serum-free supplement (such as B-27® Supplement or N-2 Supplement), or with serum.
